What should I bring?

What should I bring?

Thank you for booking to come and join us for a tandem paragliding flight, or taster day paragliding experience. One of our most frequently asked questions, is “What should I bring?”, so here’s some advice and non exhaustive lists of things to bring with you:

  • Please wear ankle supporting shoes or boots. These are really important to keep your ankles protected on our undulating take-off and landing areas. If you need advice on footwear, please contact us. We are a dealer for Hanwag flying boots.
  • Air temperature dictates the clothing we need to wear for tandem flying, and training. Here’s some ideas as a starting point for different temperatures:
    • Under 10C – Thermal layer, warm outdoor trousers, fleece mid layer top, warm insulated jacket, warm gloves, warm hat.
    • 10 – 20C – Light outdoor trousers or warm leggings, fleece mid layer and one extra mid weight jacket than you’d normally wear in that temperature, light weight gloves.
    • 20 – 30C – Shorts or leggings, short sleeve T shirt, long sleeve lightweight top/jacket, light weight gloves.
  • We’d always suggest you wear sports sunglasses, and bring a bottle of water and a snack with you for your tandem flight, as sometimes we have a hike in to the site of up to 20 minutes, and may need to wait for the conditions to be right for us to fly.
  • You might be with us on the hill for a couple of hours, or more, if we have to wait for the conditions to be spot on for a tandem flight, and solo students are normally with us between 1000 and 1700, although these timings vary with the seasons. We’ll always let you know where and when we’re meeting at around 1900 the day before.
  • Please don’t bring a metal flask, as we don’t like to fly with these in our harnesses. It’s always a good idea to wear sun cream. You’re welcome to bring a camera at your own risk and can also buy our professional photo and video package if you’d like to.
  • For solo students, you’ll need at least 2 litres of water, and perhaps as much as 3 litres in temps over 20C. You’ll also need a packed lunch and snacks for the day. Solo students also need to bring exactly £25 in cash for their BHPA day membership, or a debit card to sign up for the annual or three-month options. You’ll also need suncream and sunglasses. On your first day, you may wish to bring a small backpack with your personal bits and pieces, but as you progress through the course, it won’t be possible to bring hard framed bags as they usually don’t fit into the back of your paraglider harness, meaning your things are stuck on the hill at the end of the day once you’ve flown down!
  • We can offer a starter pack for students inc an Air Design 18 litre day sack, Supair Touch flying gloves, and a 2 litre Supair soft water bag with hose for £89.99. We do of course offer all sorts of other equipment, including package deals on your first set of paragliding equipment, which we can discuss at any point during your training.
